Wednesday, 12th Novvember 2025, Adelaide Australia
KEYNOTE PRESENTED BY - BARBARA KATZ ROTHMAN
PROFESSOR EMERITA, CITY UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK
‘Humanising birth’ principles, developed by social science and midwifery scholars, aim to promote relationship-based care tailored to the needs of the individual woman/birthing person, while also addressing structural barriers to quality maternity care. This symposium includes a keynote address by Barbara Katz Rothman, Professor Emerita of Sociology at City University of New York, and selected papers from across various academic fields, concerned with the question of how to embed humanising birth principles in health services and improve maternity experiences, systems, processes, tools and culture. The afternoon session will involve a workshop that will consider how to tackle key issues in perinatal care from transdisciplinary perspectives.
